
Dr. Margarete Gräfin von Galen
Margarete von Galen studied law in Heidelberg, Lausanne, Bonn and Munich from 1974 to 1981. Qualified as a lawyer in 1983 following legal clerkships (Referendariat) in Munich and Berlin. Obtained doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin in 2004.
Practicing as a specialist lawyer for criminal law since 1998.
Alongside activities as a criminal defence lawyer and legal advisor, is the External Ombudsman for Deutsche Bahn AG and KPMG.
Constitutional Court Judge, State of Berlin (Richterin am Verfassungsgerichtshof des Landes Berlin).
Takes part as an expert in hearings of the German Parliament and the European Commission, and advises the EU commission on matters regarding EU criminal law.
As a member and European representative of the Criminal Law Committee of the German Law Society, has written many statements about planned statutes. As a member of the European Law Committee of the German Federal Bar, gives her opinions on European legal policy.

In addition, has published essays and decision notes in the field of criminal law and law governing the professional conduct of lawyers.
Lecturing activities cover criminal issues, for example "Problems with Criminal Proceedings in Economic Criminal Procedures" at the annual conference of the Neue Zeitschrift für Strafrecht, as well as other legal themes, such as "Judicial Independence and the Professional Code of Ethics as seen by the Legal Profession" at the Brandenburg Academy for Justice.
